VIRA Island Race Series Cobble Hill 10k Virtual Challenge 2021

There are still a few days left for us to complete the VIRA Island Race Series Cobble Hill 10k Virtual Challenge.

Therefore, if you haven’t already done so, you should definitely do it as soon as possible because you only have until January 27th to upload your submission.

The challenge is as follows:

A. Run challenge: Run 10K with one hill that you consider challenging.

B. Photo challenge: Take a picture of an old pair of running shoes (or a little older). However, you should try to be creative, which means you don’t have to be wearing them! I also heard that there are bonus points if the shoes are Saucony.

So far, from what I’ve seen, this challenge has been fairly straightforward. The hill that you choose to include in your virtual run is entirely up to you. It can be short and steep or it can be long and gradual.

As for the photo challenge, I’m loving all the photos that are currently posted on the VIRA-Island Race Series Facebook page. Everyone is super creative and inspiring, which is awesome!! 🙂

Here’s how mine went down:

Run Challenge Overview

Once again, I’ve decided not to venture that far away from home because I know there are hills along the Galloping Goose heading towards Colwood and Langford. I ended up doing a couple of bonus hills (there was definitely more than one along this route). There are no rules that say we are limited to one hill that I’m aware of and I like to make things exciting as well as do a little bit extra.

I also decided to go a little bit longer than 10k and made it 13k. I’m trying to increase my volume again before I try to pick up the pace. Therefore, I’m not running these super fast, but if I dip under the 5-minute km mark for these virtual challenges, then I’m happy.

Photo Challenge Overview

For my photo challenge, I knew that I had no shortage of old Saucony running shoes. This particular pair was the one that I wore during most of the 12 Marathons in 12 Days Challenge back in the summer. They were new in the summer but now they look like they have 1000km on them (and they probably do!). I also have 3 more pairs, one of which is completely new (for now).

I’m excited for the next VIRA Island Race Series Challenge! If you haven’t signed up yet for the Virtual Challenge, you can do so here.

Looking forward to hearing how the challenge goes for you!
