There are still a few days left for us to complete the VIRA Island Race Series Comox Valley RV Half Marathon Virtual Challenge.
When you see the run challenge description, you will notice that rather than running a half marathon, you have to do 19k to complete the challenge. However, you are more than welcome to run 21k if you want to.
Therefore, if you haven’t already done so, you should definitely do it as soon as possible because you only have until March 24th to upload your submission.
The challenge is as follows:
A. Run challenge: Instead of running 21K, run 19K in recognition of COVID-19. This could be run solo or in teams of two – five people (those within your running bubble). Please adhere to the PHO order at the time of your run as to what constitutes a running bubble.
B. Photo challenge: Take a selfie in front of an RV.
I think it’s great that we are given some flexibility to complete the running challenge with a couple of people from our running bubble.
This gives runners of all levels an opportunity to participate in this awesome event. The best thing about this fun run series is that runners of all levels are welcome.
As for the photo challenge, I’m loving all the fabulous photos that are currently posted on the VIRA-Island Race Series Facebook page. You don’t have to complete your photo and your run challenge on the same day (I didn’t).
Here’s how mine went down:
Run Challenge Overview
Once again, I decided to run my favourite route. I headed out towards Langford and Colwood on the Galloping Goose trails. It was a warm day and I wore too many layers. I was definitely a bit tired when I started the run because the day before I did a slightly faster 10k followed by a 7.5k cooldown.
Since I started the 19k challenge on slightly tired legs, I wanted to keep it slow. Therefore, I was happpy with a 5:35 average pace per km. I still had fun and it turned into a very enjoyable and comfortable run once I slowed my pace down a bit.
Photo Challenge Overview
While I was running, I saw an almost empty parking lot. That was when I spotted the one and only RV in the distance. I decided to take that as an opportunity to complete my photo challenge. Of course, I had to wear the VIRA Island Race Series toque. I look a little bit tired for sure…
I’m excited for the next VIRA Island Race Series Challenge! I cannot believe that there are only 2 more virtual challenges left before the VIRA Island Race Series 2021 draws to a close. Therefore, it’s still not too late for you to join the fun.
If you haven’t signed up yet for the Virtual Challenge, you can do so here.
Looking forward to hearing how the challenge goes for you!
