VIRA Island Race Series: 2018 Recap & Review

The 2018 VIRA Island Race Series went by very quickly. This year, it included 8 road races, ranging in distances from 5k all the way to a half marathon.

Runners of all levels, from beginner to elite, are encouraged to take part in this fun series. Thousands of runners have had the opportunity to participate in the VIRA Island Race Series over the past several years.

The VIRA Island Race series has stood the test of time and it has been around since BEFORE I was born!

Although some runners choose to do only a few of the races, others do the whole series.

Each race has chip timing, awards and amazing draw prizes. I’m always impressed by the gifts that runners can win just for participating and sticking around for the awards ceremony.

Not only that, but the series also offers a great atmosphere and friendly competition.

In addition to being fun, this series is also reasonably -priced. Right now, it’s not uncommon to see race entries cost more than $70 (per race!!).

However, each VIRA Island Series race costs anywhere between $25-$50 depending on when you register. If you choose to do the whole series, you will end up paying less than $25 per race, even if you register later. However, if you sign up for the whole series even earlier, you will save even more.

With the pricing in mind, you will get a lot of races without having to pay an arm and a leg.

If you are looking for a budget-friendly opportunity to race, meet like-minded people, make new friends, win draw prizes, and keep up with your fitness goals, then this series is a great choice.

Coincidentally, it starts in January, so if “getting healthier” is a New Year’s Resolution for you, the VIRA Island Series will keep you motivated and inspired to keep chasing your fitness goals.

How did the 2018 VIRA Island Race Series go for me?

I had an amazing time at the 2018 VIRA Island Race Series!

Although I didn’t get any personal bests, I had a blast. It was my first year back to racing since my break from running.

I really loved the atmosphere at each event and I’m grateful to have made some amazing connections with wonderful and inspiring people.

Who did I meet?

  • Inspirational people who were three times my age who were still running strong.
  • People who were at the start of their fitness journey.
  • Olympians who shared their inspiring journey with me.
  • Those who have raced nearly every Island Race Series event since its’ inception.

As a BONUS, I won the entire series for my age group, which was a pleasant surprise for me! I didn’t expect that this year.
